Gia's Tips on Safe Cosmetics by Gia Machlin, February 01 2013, 0 Comments

I like this vlogging thing. It's much easier than writing. I'll continue to use the excuse that I have a broken finger as long as I can to make these videos instead of writing a post. ;-) This month I touch upon the subject of hazardous chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products and give a couple of tips on how to find out if the products you use are safe:

Safe Cosmetics

Again, here are some of the ingredients to avoid in personal care products:

  • "Fragrance," FD&C, D&C
  • Triclosan
  • Paraben
  • PEG
  • DMM Hydantoin
  • Polyethylene Glycol
  • Oxybenzone
More information can be found in the Environmental Working Group's Cosmetics Database and in EcoPlum's monthly Eco Friendly Beauty Buys column. Also, Annie Leonard's The Story of Cosmetics is a good resource. Is this something you already knew about or has this made you more aware of how to make safe choices with personal care products? Please let me know!
